Local AI FOMO Is Making People Spend Stupid Money

Follow-up to last week’s Mac Studio video. I did not buy the $10,000 machine.

The M2 Max on my desk is still fine for daily work. The only reason to upgrade would be local AI, and I already have a DGX Spark in the corner running Qwen. That’s enough privacy insurance. It is not a $10k idea.

Spark and ASUS GX10 prices jumped on FOMO. People are treating desk appliances like meme coins. Cloud frontier models (Claude at $100/month) still beat a pile of local boxes for most of what I actually do.

If you want private local AI, get one box and stop chasing. Don’t keep buying horsepower you don’t need.
